Where to eat this Veganuary in Manchester

January is here, or as some have come to refer to it: Veganuary. It’s a month where many meat-eaters and vegetarians choose to try a vegan diet for the month. This can be for a number of reasons, but the two main ones tend to be health or ethical reasons. In this article, we;re going to take a look at some of the best restaurants in Manchester that are serving up some incredible vegan options this January.

Bundobust

First up, we've got Bundobust – a spot that'll impress even the die-hard meat lovers in your friend group. Bundobust’s menu is entirely vegetarian Indian street-food, and if you visit their Oxford Road location, you’ll even find a brewery inside. Personally, we love the bhaji butty or the vada pav, but the vegan combo is also a great option to try a bit of everything. Small servings mean you can go wild and try a bunch of tasty treats in one go!

What the Pitta

Starting business in Brighton and now expanding into Manchester, What the Pitta is your go-to for vegan comfort food. Think vegan döner kebabs, paprika fries, and even popcorn chicken – a dream come true for anyone missing the meat vibe this Veganuary. It's a hit with vegans, and trust us, you don't want to miss out!

Lily’s Indian Vegetarian Cuisine

A little outside the city center in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lily’s Indian Vegetarian Cuisine is worth the journey. This all-vegetarian Indian joint serves up a mix of veggie dishes and mock-meat wonders, catering to every type of vegan diet.

Purezza

Purezza is another vegan eatery that started in Brighton, and spread its wings to Manchester. With Brighton being dubbed the vegan capital of England, standards are high, so when a restaurant expands over to Manchester, you know it’s going to be good. Pizzas, pastas, cocktails, and desserts – it's all on the menu for a top-notch vegan Italian experience.

Vegan Shack

Vegan Shack is a small fast-food restaurant based in Piccadilly Gardens that has some similarities to a vegan version of McDonalds. Grab a vegan Filet-O-Fish, chicken or beef burgers, all for under £10! And if you step inside, make sure to treat yourself to some vegan soft-serve ice cream, just like Mr. Whippy.

Wholesome Junkies

Wholesome Junkies is a step-up from Vegan Shack, serving similar burgers but extra toppings. Here, you can buy stacked up burgers, vegan chicken wings, and loaded fries. The ultimate vegan junk food restaurant.

This & That

This & That doesn’t look like much from first glance, but it’s a real hidden gem in Manchester that the locals have come to love. For just £4.50, you’ll be able to buy yourself a home cooked curry and rice. The restaurant serves a mix of vegetarian and vegan food, but the majority is vegan including the chapattis, bhajis and samosas. The options change on a daily basis with daily specials on offer, so make sure to check their curries of the day via the Chatloop app!
